Hey guys,   This is a sample pencil layout of the first page. In order to do layouts, you have to have sort of a
visual sense of direction, but of course, not the actual director's choices. These are just suggestions, but given
what can be done via computer, you have lots of editorial choices. This first visual is a layout drawing of the
chipmunks' tree, the stream, and the village beyond..
The chipmunks, tree, village, flowers, leaves, sky, etc. will all be rendered in the watercolor style of the
chipmunk sample below
and will be on separate layers.
The toned areas of the background layout will be rendered in watercolor. The white areas will be left
clear and given to you in a tiff format to retain the transparency. The transparent areas such as the sky
and the stream in this drawing, will then be able to have moving clouds, for example, or ripples in the
water placed, moved, rotated, whatever you envision. I see it set in the Fall with a few, brightly-colored
leaves drifting past.

I also think that  (and it's just a suggestion) that a better title might be:

"NAT, NATALIE, & NOAH"

This page was laid out to be a right to left pan, starting with the upper right-hand corner. The sky would be
filled with moving clouds, the shot would widen with Nat popping up from the bottom as he is introduced. As
the shot starts a slow pan left, Natalie pops up from the tree nest when she's introduced. The pan continues
across the moving stream and ends with a slow zoom and fade on the distant village.

I've also reworked your dialogue slightly to make it more kids' book  friendly, but again, your choice.

"A very long time ago, there was a chipmunk named Nathan who called himself "Nat." (he pops up and wags
his tail.)
He, and his wife Natalie, made their home in the hollow of a tree, near a slow-moving stream. Close
by, there was a town where people lived.
"

To do a pencil layout of the background with screen direction, (which is what I did at Fox, but can understand if
you want to do it all yourself) a pencil drawing of each element, then a watercolor rendering of same, in
appropriate file formats, I would have to charge $500./page. I'm sure you understand that doing this project
involves basically story boarding, layout, background, character design & rendering. It would be a lot of work,
but also a lot of fun, & I'd love to work on it.
I could probably have it finished by Christmas if we get the go
ahead on it.
Think it over and let me know what you'd like to do so we can arrange our scheduling.

SAMPLES
First Nat pops up. The image could be flipped, moved, etc.
Now, Natalie, who of course would be rendered in watercolors like Nat,
pops up from the nest when her name is mentioned. The pan
continues left finally focusing in on the distant village, as per the dialog.
The additional falling could be used to give the pan even more
movement.
